Reaching That Perfect Tone.

Updated: Jul 12

Is your hair color too warm? Too cool? Lackluster? You need the help of a toner to reach your perfect tone!

What is a toner? A toner is like a topcoat for your hair. It deposits Demi-Permanent color onto the hair to neutralize, enhance or brighten the look of your hair. At The Spa at River Ridge, we use Redken Shades EQ Hair Gloss as our preferred product for toning. Toning glosses can be used for many reasons, but the most common is to adjust warm or cool tones.

Benefits of using a toner:

  • Adds shine and conditions the hair.

  • Closes the hair cuticle (especially after opening to decolorize the hair).

  • Creates healthier hair which in turn creates less frizz because you aren’t leaving the hair “raw”.

  • Changes visual tones if needed to enhance, neutralize or brighten the hair.

Four tips to make your toner last longer:

  1. Use color safe shampoo and conditioner at home.

  2. Use a heat protectant (like Unite 7 Seconds Detangler) before heat styling and lower the heat settings on your hot tools (heat styling can damage, dull and even tint the hair (like toast for example) if you are not using a heat protectant or using too high of a temperature on hot tools).

  3. Wash your hair less. Try using dry shampoo to go an extra day or two in between washes. We love GKhair's Dry Shampoo, Kevin Murphy FRESH.HAIR and Unite U:Dry.

  4. Schedule your next appointment in advance according to your stylists recommendation to maintain your perfect tone.
